Refractory Project In India
The first production line, dedicated to acidic monolithic refractories, has entered commissioning and ramp up phase at Calderys Plant in East and South India (CAPES). The successful trial of the acidic monolithic refractories line, exactly one year after the project’s groundbreaking, marks a significant step toward the overall facility’s commissioning, the company stated.

“The progress at the acidic monolithic production line is a testament to the dedication of our team,” said Satyendra Kumar, director, industrial operations & projects, Southwest Asia. “With CAPES advancing rapidly, we are on track to deliver world class refractory solutions while reinforcing our commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency.” The investment comprises five state-of-the-art production lines to deliver high quality refractory solutions and steel casting fluxes. Construction at the plant is progressing well, with production expected to begin by the second half of 2025. This development strengthens Calderys offer to the Indian steel industry by enhancing local production capabilities, supporting its fast growth, and reducing reliance on imports.
The company says the CAPES project goes beyond expanding Calderys’ production capacity – it embodies the group’s commitment to local manufacturing and supply chain efficiency and innovation driven growth and environmental responsibility. As an example, the facility is designed to operate majorly on solar energy and green fuel, incorporating a dust emission control infrastructure, a rainwater harvesting system and a zero water discharge approach, which includes a sewage and effluent treatment plant to minimise environmental impact. It will also retain 33 per cent green cover within its premises.
“CAPES is more than just a plant – it’s a bold step toward Calderys’ future in Asia Pacific,” said Ish Mohan Garg, senior vice president of the Asia Pacific region of the group. “This milestone is helping us strengthen our leadership in the global refractory market. And this is only the beginning – the foundation for even greater ambitions, with more exciting developments is on the horizon.”
