In the Summer, the IRE hosted the first in a new series of technical evenings. The location on this occasion being the new Alkegen offices in Alderley Park, Macclesfield, proving convenient in terms of location and facilities.

From the IRE side Dominic Oates chaired the meeting and did his best to sign up some of the Alkegen employees present as new members, thanks were given to the attendees and speakers.

Alkegen also provided the speakers, and it was over to Leandro Colombo (market sales manager – steel & foundry) and Devran Tulunay (sales manager of Turkey, UK, Greece, Israel and Turkic Republics) to present on the subjects of ‘ladle lip ring construction’ and ‘the future of ladle and tundish insulations’ respectively.

The event was well attended with around thirty people in total, in a sign of the times over half of the people attended online and Leandro Colombo, who is based in Brazil, presented remotely.  This hybrid attendance model worked well, fortunately the technology played along so it’s definitely the way in which we intend to deliver such events in the future.

Both presentations garnered questions from the audience and lively discussion followed. IRE President Mike Lamkin thanked the organisers and encouraged members to participate in these events to enable them to grow and in turn increase the membership offering. The technical evening was recorded and will be available to members along with the presentations. Alkegen is willing to make the offices available for future such events which the Council will duly arrange.
